Arthur Danto transformed aesthetics upon encountering Andy Warhol’s Brillo Boxes. Because the artwork is visually indiscernible from the commercial commodity, art status cannot be defined by perceptual properties. It requires an interpretive atmosphere of art theory and art history—the Artworld.
