Key Claims
John Mearsheimer argued that great powers are rarely status-quo seekers. Driven by five systemic assumptions (anarchy, offensive military capability, uncertain intentions, survival goal, and rationality), great powers recognize that the ultimate guarantor of survival is undisputed regional hegemony, resulting in unavoidable tragedy and tragedy of great power conflict.
